A Thought On Drive By Prayers

A thought on Drive by Prayers:

As you know the idea of Drive by Prayers was put on my heart as a way to be pro-active in the pro-life movement yet at the same time not be confrontational and in my case not have to speak or deal with anyone since, I,  personally am not very good at dealing in these type of situations.

Last night, however, I went to see Lila Rose; for those who are not familiar with Lila Rose, she is a pro-life activist & inspirational speaker– http://www.liveaction.org/lilarose/, anyway while she was speaking, I had a moment of clarity…

A question of what negative publicity does for those who are receiving it…i.e. planned parenthood, came to me & the  conclusion that I came to is ….not one thing unless you consider giving “free” publicity to a negative source “bad”.  There is a saying, I am sure you have heard it, “even bad publicity, is good publicity”.  How can that be, we might think.

Well, in my mind, just getting the name out there, and associating it with whomever is giving the bad publicity, be it Live Action, Lila Rose, or myself, can actually be a good thing.  Unfortunately, we humans, have a short attention span; sorry to say so but many of us know this is true.  Pretty soon our minds start to wander  and a name comes to our mind (be it pp or Walmart) and we forget about what the bad publicity was, we just start thinking “oh yeah, I needed to pick up some groceries” & out the window goes all of our moral values.   I am sure you have seen this happen many times in our society.

Our society can be compared to passage in Daniel Quinn’s  book,  The Story of “B”;   “If you drop a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will of course frantically try to clamber out. But if you place it gently in a pot of tepid water and turn the heat on low, it will float there quite placidly. As the water gradually heats up, the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor, exactly like one of us in a hot bath, and before long, with a smile on its face, it will unresistingly allow itself to be boiled to death.”

If we are to change a generation we must be willing to allow ourselves to feel the heat, even when it feels good, when we are enjoying the warmth of the water around us, enjoying our creature comforts — our job is to remember that comfort can bring us a slow and painful death.

After this realization, I have decided to keep the name of pp out of any of my blogs or any of the groups I manage and to replace that name with a positive name, such as a Pro-life agency like Hands Of Hope Women’s center. I hope others will do the same.

Father in heaven, may we feel the heat being set on us from the evil one and may we be strong enough to be aware of what is truly going on around us.  Protect us Lord from our own desire for comfort.
