Pentecost Novena: May 10 – May 18

For John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence.

They therefore who were come together, asked him, saying: Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?  But he said to them: It is not for you to know the times or moments, which the Father hath put in his own power: But you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth.  And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments.

All these were persevering with one mind in prayer with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

The Pentecost Novena is a devotion consisting of prayers said for nine consecutive days; asking to obtain certain graces. The practice of this particular novena comes from scripture (see above) The Acts of the Apostles. After, Jesus Ascension into heaven, “He told His disciples to pray together in the upper room and devote themselves to constant prayer. ” The doctrine states that the Apostles, with Our Blessed Mother prayed together for nine days concluding with the descent of the Holy Spirit above them.

Personally, I believe that to do justice to this particular Novena, people need to come together and pray for nine days.  I am in the process of trying to facilitate this, here, where I live.  If you have any interest in participating, please message me and I will give you more details.  If it is not convenient for you to gather with us, gather with others or need be pray by yourself. But Pray! This novena.

We all are in need of prayers, let us allow the Holy Spirit  to help us.  We can’t do it alone. Open your heart, find a way to spare some time that we may give God the praise He deserves.
